The Tara Devi Temple is located on Tara Devi Hill, about 11 to 13 kilometres from Shimla, in Himachal Pradesh, northern India. It sits at roughly 1,850 metres (about 6,000 feet) above sea level, on the Shimla-Kalka highway, with sweeping views of the Himalayan foothills and the valleys below.
The temple is dedicated to Goddess Tara, a form of the Divine Mother revered in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. It stands at the top of a forested ridge, surrounded by deodar and oak trees, which makes it as popular with nature lovers as with pilgrims.
According to local tradition, the temple was established several centuries ago by a ruler with roots in Bengal, who is said to have brought the worship of Goddess Tara to these hills. The shrine is known for its calm atmosphere and its connection to the surrounding forest.
